Fourth PMC Meeting

The fourth meeting of the Plant Modeling Consortium expanded on previous discussions as well as introduced a number of advanced engineering modeling techniques now in practice. This meeting featured a keynote presentation from Dr. Hideyuki Tanaka, Assistant Professor at Kyoto University. The topic of Dr. Tanaka's presentation was, "System Identification Techniques using Physical Laws".

Presentation recordings from this meeting are now available and can be found in the Resource Archive.

SAE and IEEE Webinars

The SAE and the IEEE have partnered with Maplesoft on many occasions, to present webinars on a variety of topics. These webinars bring together industry experts from around the world to share their experiences and expertise and to provide valuable information about important new developments in the field of engineering modeling and simulation.

Advanced Physical Modeling Techniques Accelerate the Design of Complex Space Systems
SAE Webinar
Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 2:00 PM EDT

Current research into planetary exploration is triggering an extensive range of new design techniques and tools. This webinar presents an overview of modeling and simulation of space systems using physical modeling techniques derived from symbolic model formulation techniques. For unmanned planetary exploration to be successful, advanced autonomous robotic rovers are needed. Dr. Amir Khajepour, Canada Research Chair in Mechatronic Vehicle Systems and Professor of Engineering in the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering department at UW, is working with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Maplesoft, and the Government of Canada, to develop a full solution for the power management system of autonomous rovers. This new initiative uses the latest generation of symbolic modeling technology (e.g. MapleSim from Maplesoft) to rapidly develop high fidelity, multi-domain models of the rover subsystems. Challenges in Embedded Systems Modeling and Control in Vehicle Design
IEEE Webinar

This webcast offers a unique industry perspective on how engineers are currently doing design and how they’ll design in the future. Dr. Joseph Lomonaco will offer his insights based on his rich experience as an engineer with Harley-Davidson Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp. He is a seasoned expert in model-based vehicle design and has recently explored new possibilities for increasing design capacity for the vehicle industry. Dr. Tom Lee, Vice President of the Maplesoft Application Engineering Group, will show how advanced engineering systems can be more efficiently designed, modeled, and simulated, using a number of real-world applications from industry. Model-Based Development and HIL Testing for Mechatronic Systems
IEEE Webinar

This webinar features experts from two of the leading engineering modeling and real-time simulation tool providers: Maplesoft and National Instruments. They will present an overview of modeling and simulation of complex engineering systems using physical modeling techniques derived from symbolic model formulation techniques, and the advantages this brings for implementation in real-time simulation systems for HIL testing. Accelerating the Design of Embedded Control Systems

SAE Webinar

This seminar is about accelerating automotive design and development tasks through the emerging generation of engineering modeling tools. Deploying advanced techniques such as physical modeling, symbolic computation, and optimized code generation, engineering teams are beginning to see time savings of an order of magnitude in both the plant model development process and real time execution. Faster Product Development Using Multi-Domain Modeling and Simulation
IEEE Webinar

This webinar examines how the natural, almost inevitable, coupling of physical phenomena in engineered devices has driven the evolution of new techniques that allow engineers to model how physical domains interact. In this presentation, Dr. Laurent Bernardin, Chief Scientist and Vice-President of Research and Development at Maplesoft, will discuss advanced multi-domain modeling and simulation methods and how these techniques are driving the development and enhancement of modern consumer products. What Are the Next Key Steps in Engineering Modeling and Simulation?
SAE Webinar

This webinar examines how the task of effective modeling, simulation, or control has become complex and in many cases unwieldy. Whether it is multi-domain modeling, or high-performance real-time simulation for control applications, systems have become more sophisticated and requirements more stringent. Joe Steiber, a Principal Engineer at the Southwest Research Institute in Texas, will provide the audience of this webinar with insight into the nature of modern modeling challenges.
