Physical Modeling Consortium Survey
After two successful meetings, the Physical Modeling Consortium has already established a good framework for discussing and enriching techniques for effective engineering modeling. To assist the development of this new group, we want to hear from engineering professionals on how best to develop an innovative and influential organization. Please help us by completing a brief online survey on a variety of topics concerning our vision, activities, and technical issues.

PMC Networking Session announced for SAE Congress, April 16th 4:30PM - 7:00PM EDT
The PMC Networking Session at the 2008 SAE Congress is the ideal opportunity for
you to find out more about the Consortium and to meet peers who share the same
interest in innovative design techniques. Whether your goal is to stay on top
of the latest developments or find a forum to share your ideas and concerns,
the PMC will help you get in touch with the industry leaders at the forefront
of modeling innovation. For more information, click here or contact us at info@pmconsortium.org. 21 March 2008
Second meeting, Feb 21, Berlin
The second meeting was hosted by IAV at their primary facilities in Berlin,
Germany. Over 50 people world-wide participated in this event. Presenters
included senior engineers and managers from Toyota, IAV, and Maplesoft. Details
of the Conservative Quantities (CQ) approach to modeling was presented and
discussed. The CQ technique aims to increase the accuracy of models while
making it easier for engineers to address common deficiencies in traditional
modeling techniques. A concrete example applying this method was presented by
Toyota. Registered members of this PMC web site can obtain copies and
recordings of this meeting here. 20 March 2008
Inaugural Meeting
The first meeting of the Consortium was held in August 2007 in Monterey,
California, in conjunction with the International Federation of Automatic
Control (IFAC) Symposium on Advances in Automotive Control. At this meeting,
Toyota presented its vision for the future development in Rapid Plant Modeling
methodology based on symbolic computation, and Maplesoft presented research and
development in support of this vision.
The initial consortium meeting was attended by over 25 representatives from
major players in the auto industry, including OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers,
consultancies, and academic researchers.
A survey was conducted at this meeting to gauge participants’ interest on
physical modeling. A summary of the results can be found
here. 20 March 2008 |

What is the Physical Modeling Consortium?
Founded by Toyota and Maplesoft, the Physical Modeling Consortium (PMC) promotes
the development of new design techniques for the automotive and related
industries.
Contributors to the consortium include most automotive OEMs as well as leading
technology and solution providers. More info
